Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the risk management of watersheds of national interest in Cuba, in the face of exceptional events of the biosphere; taking as a reference the events generated by the COVID-19 pandemic in the San Juan watershed, Cuba. The realization of the study allowed the use of diverse instruments and methods such as georeferencing, the IPER risk matrix method and the experts' criteria focused on the environmental management evaluation indicators in hydrographic basins. The results are focused on the proposal of a hazard identification and risk assessment matrix that includes the time variable for risk management in the face of exceptional events in watersheds. The methodology used is rigorous and well defined, the results are relevant and contribute to a more effective and efficient management of risks associated with exceptional events.
